Welcome to the Thompson House Restaurant and Tavern official website. Here you will find information regarding the Thompson House, which is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places: its history in the borough of Brownsville; its current incarnation as a fine restaurant and tavern; up-to-date lunch and dinner menus for both the first floor restaurant and downstairs tavern; along with directions and other information that we hope will enhance your dining experience.
For many years residents of Brownsville and the surrounding communities have been forced to travel great distances (often as far as Pittsburgh) to enjoy quality cuisine. While high caliber restaurants do exist in Fayette County, they are some distance off in Uniontown, up in the Laurel Mountains, or across the Mon River in Washington County, all a minimum twenty mile round trip to and from Brownsville. Not the Thompson House Restaurant. Conveniently located at 815 Water St. in South Brownsville at the corner of Joiner St., the restaurant has plenty of free parking.
When the urge for something a bit more substantial than a processed chicken sandwich and fries strikes the heart of your appetite, when your taste buds desire food that is not only filling but stirs your culinary palate to new heights, come pay us a visit. You won't be disappointed.
While the Thompson House restaurant and tavern is open to the public, it is also a place for community organization meetings, family gatherings, wedding rehearsals, after-funeral dinners, presentations, and more --- we do it all in our well-appointed, stately dining facilities. When mom and pop come to visit from halfway around the world, wow them with a quality dining experience right here in Brownsville.
There is even a large private meeting room with a big screen TV tucked quitely away downstairs next to the tavern. Contact Jeff Wilhelm or Bob Kovach, co-owners of the Thompson House, at 724-785-4744 for information regarding your special event.
Not hungry enough to indulge yourself in a full meal? Then pacify your palate down in the Tavern, where the food is just as filling as our restaurant fare while satisfactory to the wallet. Baskets of fresh homemade fries! Soups! Hamburgers! Shrimp! You get the pictures. There's also a full selection of wines, spirits and good ol' fashioned beer for the 21-plus crowd. And don't forget the TV's! When your significant other wants to watch a heart-wrenching love story on your only big screen TV at home, come on down to the Thompson Tavern to watch the big game on our bigger screens!
The staff of the Thompson House Restaurant and Tavern are here to serve you. We hope to see you soon.
